Please remind me what a run-on sentence was, I always forget.

I'm unhappy with all proposed solutions, including my own.  My last version
is less verbose, which I tend to favor in case of doubt.  This calls for
a complete rephrasing.

How about:

[There are two different object IDs that you can use. On the same system
the older one cannot play very well, while the new one does. However, I
suspect that the new one is not available unless you have installed WMP 7].
