This seems to cause 'death' of the configure script when having 
--enable-gpl but, for example, not --enable-libfaad.

It seems this part was wrongly backported from trunk which has:

die_license_disabled() {
     enabled $1 || { enabled $2 && die "$2 is $1 and --enable-$1 is not 
specified."; }
}
