Nobody will stop you running faad2 standalone for testing purposes (or
any other).

We do not have an xvid decoding wrapper.  x264 is encode-only, and we
have no native h.264 encoder.  The policy is quite clear IMO: no
wrappers for decoders we have natively.  Otherwise we'd have wrappers
for libmad, liba52, libdca, xvid, libflac, libeverything... and that
is not the purpose of ffmpeg.  If you want wrappers, go to mplayer,
vlc or whatever you prefer.
