It was partially reverted.
Do you know anyone actually using it?
I had the impression the code for that was mostly rotting
(we had not even any regression tests for it, so who
knows if we'd ever have noticed breakage...)

with git reverting is not that difficult (though it always
leaves traces in the history which can be a bit annoying).
