[02:43:51 CEST] <DHE> each of the x264 threads are firing up, doing work, and going back to sleep. but on linux even if a job isn't actually running it still has a "home" CPU and moving it incurs a migration cost. as such tons of threads running and sleeping all the time just doesn't max out CPU
