Further to this I have found that the initial file & its sample have an
audio delay of some 12+ secs.

It is similar to the issue in this thread:

with mplayer -delay can be used to achieve sync.

I have used a windows program called "AVI-Mux GUI" which loads the file,
deduces its audio delay and then saves the file without the delay. After
which FFMpeg process the new file without problem.

Is it not possible to deduce the delay and encode accordingly with FFMpeg?
