Just curious: in what way is (- - variable) invalid C syntax? The
grammar seems to allow it, and gcc takes it without complaint even in
its strictest mode. Parsing would be something like this:

( - - [primary-expr] )
( - - [cast-expr] )
( - [unary-operator] [cast-expr] )
( - [unary-expr] )
( - [cast-expr] )
( [unary-operator] [cast-expr] )
( [unary-expr] )
