[Ffmpeg-devel] Encoding files for iPod from VOB

Thanks for your help in advance.

My goal for the last month or so has been to take
several of my DVDs and rip them to files that I can
view on my iPod. I've been successful in getting the
VOB files, but whether it's QuickTime Pro, mencoder or
ffmpeg, I just haven't seemed to be successful thus
far in encoding the mp4 or m4v files necessary to view
it on the iPod.

In any case, I was able to successfully download from
cvs and build ffmpeg last night. However, it seems
unable to decode the VOB files:

$ ffmpeg -i test1.vob -f avi test1.avi
FFmpeg version CVS, Copyright (c) 2000-2004 Fabrice
  libavutil version: 49.0.0
  libavcodec version: 51.9.0
  libavformat version: 50.4.0
  built on May 16 2006 21:52:54, gcc: 3.3 20030304
(Apple Computer, Inc. build 1666)
Input #0, mpeg, from 'test1.vob':
  Duration: 00:00:15.5, start: 0.191167, bitrate: 8999
  Stream #0.0[0x1e0], 29.97 fps(r): Video: mpeg2video,
yuv420p, 720x480, 9800 kb/s
  Stream #0.1[0x80]: Audio: 0x0000, 48000 Hz, 5:1, 448
  Stream #0.2[0x81]: Audio: 0x0000, 48000 Hz, stereo,
192 kb/s
  Stream #0.3[0x82]: Audio: 0x0000, 48000 Hz, stereo,
192 kb/s
  Stream #0.4[0x83]: Audio: 0x0000, 48000 Hz, stereo,
192 kb/s
File 'test1.avi' already exists. Overwrite ? [y/N] y
Output #0, avi, to 'test1.avi':
  Stream #0.0, 29.97 fps(c): Video: mpeg4, yuv420p,
720x480, q=2-31, 200 kb/s
  Stream #0.1: Audio: mp2, 48000 Hz, stereo, 64 kb/s
Stream mapping:
  Stream #0.0 -> #0.0
  Stream #0.1 -> #0.1
Unsupported codec (id=86020) for input stream #0.1

Is there something I am doing wrong? Is there
additional software I need to have? From the
documentation, it seems ffmpeg should be able to
decode VOB files.

Please let me know if there is any additional
information I need to supply, and I will be happy to
do so.

Thanks for your help,
Anthony Frasso
