FWIW my own pet peeve against autostuff is the built-in tendency to 
require the bleeding-edge latest release of all the autotools, when its 
not of umpteen build tools.

Which doesnt mean Reimer isnt right, only that autos!@#$% manages to 
make life difficult even for those who *dont* dig into the autoscripts.
