so noone can edit? if so that totally defeats the idea behind a wiki ...
cant the spam issue be dealt with in a more sensible way?

something like some sort of moderation so that all changes would be
sent to a group of volunteers who would have to approve them before
they appear? and then everyone who had 1 approved changed would get
all future changes approved automatically but actually that might not
be needed, i dont think there would be that many good changes ...
