[FFmpeg-devel] Bounties?

Well, there's been lots of good discussion about bounties (yay!),
although it has (of course) led to more confusion than I would have
hoped. I suppose that's simply the result of having a community
spread across the globe.

The low-end video iPod starts at $249USD. But it's hard to give one
person the reward when it really is a community effort. Of course,
moving money around the globe into various currencies is also an
expensive proposition with bank surcharges and courier fees -- the
banks might end up getting more than the contributors if we're not
careful.

I agree with Piero, that setting up a trust might be the proper way
to go about things, but really, I don't expect the volume of
donations to make the time and effort worthwhile.

Would designating a single person as the recipient of the bounty (by
vote / lottery / etc.) encourage the community to innovate, or cause
unnecessary drama?

-JD.
