being everybody reasonable even if with the tendency to flame, iff there
is a technical reason for it I don't see the problem.

svn export or tar -jcf foo dir --exclude .svn isn't that "elaborate
workaround"

I do releases on my own and is far simpler than doing releases using
autotools in my experience, mostly because I don't have to generate
files or care for other annoying details ^^

As you see it's mostly a matter of perception, I dislike a lot the fact
that the build system doesn't track deps the same way autotools
makefiles do but so far I hadn't be bothered enough to try to fix it.
