Yes, I did find that reply rather amusing.  The part where he called
me the most unfriendly person on the list less so, even though I half
expected something like that.

If you call that contempt, then you don't know me very well.
Besides, FFmpeg isn't intended for the average computer user.
There are plenty of GUI frontends they can use.
