Thanks a lot for the public-spirit advice and for the very interesting
technical answer.
I am not an accomplished C developer myself and I was pretty confident
that there was no particular overhead or other drawbacks declaring
data structures this way, but it happens that you are definitely right
:-)

Hold on for a new patch proposal.
