As someone who develops against ffmpeg (and against other things), I
care about those two bits, and my former customers would have killed me
for not caring about them.

I recently saw some work being done on Red's codec on this list.
Someone going between that codec or DNxHD and V210 will probably care
about the last two bits as well, and I would much rather see theffmpeg
developers handle this correctly.
