btw, its off topic but it would be nice if we had some tests that would
build random filter chains with random (sanely bounded) filter parameters,
running that overnight with each test chain run with normal behavior and
with direct rendering disabled and always a new buffer of correct size
being allocated between each 2 filters. The output could be tested to match
...

Awnsering whenever a program halts or runs forever is
On a turing machine, in general impossible (turings halting problem).
On any real computer, always possible as a real computer has a finite number
of states N, and will either halt in less than N cycles or never halt.
