That is strange, I do not manage to reproduce the problem with real-world
data, although I am convinced I experienced divergence under these
circumstances. I may have left a subtle bug somewhere.

I will leave it a few day to cool off in my head and try the other approach.
It may require some rework on the timefilter API, but since it became
private some time ago, that is not really a problem.
