Both your point of views make sense but for different use cases.
The texi view is suited for developers and the wiki view is suited for the 
users.
Joining those together will fail sooner or later, because they have 
different goals.
We've discussed this a lot of times before and I can only say that this 
merge, whoever accepts to maintain it, will be the nightmare for its 
maintainer.
Also, take a look at VLC's wiki and see why the wiki is awesome and useful 
and why the majority of users use the wiki instead of man or -h.
After all, it only makes difference which point of view you are favoring, 
nothing more.

Same thing is for forum vs mailing lists discussion.
Users favor forums, because of its ease of use and visual layout, etc. while 
developers favor mailing list for obvious reasons.

The ideal way would be to use both, but in the lack of time/people, use what 
is the most needed at the moment.
