The patches all go together.

After reading it once more, I realize that. Unfortunately, that also means
that this version of probing will no longer work once new directives are
added. It was the plan from the start to have directives to allow seeking in
the files and tweaking timestamps.

Ah, I see your point. But since the syntax is meant to be expanded, I do not
believe this is very important.
