I had the same thought...
But I think such a playlist demuxer could make good use of chained
demuxers such as proposed by Michael [1]. The playlist demuxer could
initiate one sub-demuxer for each file in the playlist, and then all
the streams would be combined in a single AVFormatContext.

I guess the AVChapter API could be used for this. So a demuxer should
be OK in this regard.
