Comment (by patters):

 Out of curiosity I made a similar edit to FFmpeg 2.1's
 libavformat/mpegts.h (changed the DTS stream ID from 0x8a to 0x88). I
 compiled it and I can report that it did not fix the bug that I originally
 raised this ticket for.
