If I understand above mails correctly, you provided a sample 
that fails if you add -async 1 to the command line.
(It seems the new -async 1 does not like channel changes.)
You removed the -async 1 and wrote "the problem goes away".
Then you write "I expect that could then cause another 
problem" (lets assume this is true), so I asked for a 
sample that does indeed fail without -async 1.

I don't think you provided such a sample, or did you?
