Following the directions to build ffmpeg on Ubuntu 12.04lts

I notice that the directions for the "Optional Installation to Add lavf 
support to x264" are byte-for-byte identical to the directions for 
building x264 in the section above it once you get past the git pull and 
make distclean.

Is it safe to assume that lavf support is now built by default and the 
optional section can be ignored and/or deleted or are the lavf 
instructions incorrect?
