Please allow me to repeat that there is NO automatic conversion 
(every time) when you decode xyz jpeg2000.

Or to say it differently:
The automatic conversion that happens has nothing to do with 
jpeg2000 (but only with the used encoder).

(The tiff encoder currently does not accept xyz.)
Please provide a tiff sample containing xyz.
