Another update to this. Apparently it was the fault of the cableco
themselves. For a month or so now at least, recordings have never
experienced this exact same error even though I never touched my setup.

It appears from talking to a cable tech that they were not 100% done
messing with the setup during this MSNBC issue and even 8 months later are
still messing here and there with equipment.
