Is trac the right place to request a new codec support?

RED Digital Cinema has developed a new distribution codec, which uses the .RED file extension, designed to have visually lossless 4K footage at 20Mbps.  Not to be confused with REDCODE, a high bitrate raw acquisition codec which uses the .R3D extension.
So far, details are sparse, and the only way to encode these files is with the RRencode plugin for RedCine-X. http://www.red.com/store/products/rrencode-plugin
The only way to decode and play the files is with the RedRay hardware player. http://www.red.com/products/redray

This codec is still in its infancy, but it would be great to have decode support in ffmpeg.  If anyone wants a sample, David Fincher has released the trailer for “Gone Girl” in this format: http://red.cachefly.net/Gone_Girl.zip
