I'll look into this. Because my intention is to have this on a private network I didn’t want to have any additional pieces installed, I wanted just ffserver doing the serving of the streams.

I've managed to get a HLS live stream using nginx with the RTMP module.

nginx listens on 1935 port for the RTMP stream and uses the storage to store the files ts files. Works on a circular buffer fasion, deleting the old ts files.
I don't know if this is what you really need.
