What do you mean by "not needed for your specific usecase"? Which usecases are not supported by ffmpeg but supported by mplayer -dumpstream?

Basically I'm converting DVD (not protected) from .iso image to h264. Sometimes I need to specify a start, end/duration and a title. I also need to extract still frames from defined timecode. I currently mount the .iso prior to do that and use dvd2concat to get a concat script. I was wondering if I can skip the .iso mounting step?

I also can't always extract still frames accurately from DVD (with and without -ss).
