Since it doesn't take any arguments (or environment variables or input
files), you can only insert it into a filter chain and see it operate.

Yes, that's the case for all the command line tools. I don't know
whether it's on purpose - I see the case for programs with a much
smaller help output - or whether a patch would be appreciated. It also
slightly annoys me.
