Please note that this is a wrong (or bad) 
example, there is no guarantee that headers 
in different directories do not have 
identical names (and at least one header 
shares its name with a common system header).

The example should be:
  extern "C" {
      #include <libavcodec/avcodec.h>
      #include <libavformat/avformat.h>
      #include <libswscale/swscale.h>
      #include <libavutil/imgutils.h>
  }
